Choose a Kannapolis People Directory
Each Kannapolis directory answers a different kind of question. City and school lists identify people by public role. County tax rolls connect an owner name with a parcel. State business and license tools verify a filed or regulated role. Older city, phone, reverse, church, and school volumes show who lived, worked, studied, or worshiped in the area at a given time.

|---|---|---|---|
| City department staff tables | Kannapolis employees and service contacts | City of Kannapolis | Free department web pages |
| KCS Our Staff | District and school personnel | Kannapolis City Schools | Free name and location search |
| RCCC employee directory | Faculty, adjuncts, and other college employees | Rowan-Cabarrus Community College | Free name or department search |
| County real estate rolls | Taxable property owners | Cabarrus or Rowan County | Free owner, address, or parcel search |
| NCSBE Voter Search | Registered voters and public election geography | North Carolina State Board of Elections | Free name, county, and status lookup |

| City, reverse, and phone volumes | Past residents, occupants, and businesses | Cabarrus County Library | Catalog search and physical reference copies |
Begin with the list that matches the relationship being tested. A current teacher belongs in an education directory. A name tied to a deed belongs in the county where the parcel lies. The state voter lookup can confirm public registration and district facts, while the full Kannapolis voter registration record has its own limits. A former neighbor may appear only in a dated telephone or reverse directory. Official people directories are narrow by design, but several sources can be combined when spelling, address, and date agree.
Kannapolis Government Directory Entries
The city publishes department tables instead of one master employee database. The Administration staff directory uses the same layout as separate Police, Fire, Parks and Recreation, and Communications lists. Each entry can show first and last name, department, position, work phone, and an email link. The February 2025 organization chart adds the reporting hierarchy, while the Planning and Zoning roster identifies appointed members, contact details, term expiration, and term count.
A representative Administration listing contains Pam Scaggs, Administration, City Clerk, 704-920-4303, and an email link. The Police list includes named personnel and functional contacts. Its Records Division appears as an entry with a main number, which is useful when a person is absent from the table.
- Person: first and last name, or an operational unit name
- Role: position or public service function
- Placement: city department
- Phone: direct work line or unit contact number
- Email: linked city work address when published
For an unlisted contact, call the department or City Hall at 704-920-4444. The city clerk is the next route for municipal records. Cabarrus and Rowan county offices keep county records, so their staff and elected rosters must be checked apart from the Kannapolis tables.
Search Kannapolis Education Directories
The Kannapolis City Schools Our Staff directory contained 695 entries during inspection. It is the broadest local staff list, and it crosses the county line with the school system. Searching Cabarrus County Schools or Rowan-Salisbury Schools merely because of a county name can miss KCS personnel. Results can show a name, title, school or central-office location, department, and institutional email.
| Search control | Input | Required | Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Keyword | Text | No | Broad staff and result filter |
| First Name | Text | No | Given-name match |
| Last Name | Text | No | Surname match |
| Location | Select list | No | School or central-office filter |
| Pagination | Page links | Not applicable | Ten entries per page during inspection |
One result listed Shauna Abbott as a teacher at Kannapolis Middle School 6th with an email link. A fuller entry for Daryle Adams identified his director role, Central Office location, two departments, and email. When the name is uncertain, location or department can narrow the list. The district office at 100 Denver Street also provides a phone fallback at 704-938-1131 on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Rowan-Cabarrus Community College directory lists all college employees, including adjuncts. Search by name or filter by department. Entries may show title, department, phone, email, and campus. The North Carolina Research Campus is a location value, which makes the college list useful for Kannapolis contacts even though no single directory covers every university partner at the campus.
Kannapolis Property Owner Directories
Real estate rolls act as current owner directories, but the county boundary controls the search. The Cabarrus Real Estate Search accepts owner last and first name, account number, parcel components, address parts, tax year, and several advanced land filters. The Rowan Property Search accepts parcel ID, address, owner, account, book, or page. Rowan advises searching one field at a time and formats owner names as LAST NAME FIRST NAME.
A tax result can identify a taxable owner, parcel or account number, mailing and site addresses, deed book and page, legal description, acreage, values, sale data, and districts when shown. A mailing address is not proof that the owner lives there. CLaRIS in Cabarrus and the county GIS viewers add parcel maps and deed or plat references, while the Registers of Deeds hold the source instruments. Rowan deeds are not indexed by street address, so an address search begins with the tax roll and carries the owner plus book and page into the recorded-document index.
The free Rowan Property Check service shows another name-based use of county land systems.
The filing alert monitors an owner name or parcel identification number. It does not validate a document or stop a filing, so any alert should lead back to the official index and Register of Deeds.
Kannapolis Business and License Directories
The North Carolina Business Registration Search can connect a person or Kannapolis address to a corporation, LLC, registered agent, or company official. Its interactive form selects the indexed role, match type, and word behavior. A person search can use last, first, and middle name. Entity profiles may include legal and assumed names, SOS ID, type, creation state and date, status, registered office, registered agent, officials, annual reports, and filing images.
Assumed business names follow a different path. The City of Kannapolis directs operators to the Cabarrus or Rowan Register of Deeds based on location. The filing identifies stated owners, but it is not a professional license or government endorsement. Chamber lists are narrower still. The Cabarrus Chamber offers keyword, category, and alphabet browsing, while the Rowan Chamber lists member businesses, addresses, phones, and websites. Neither chamber is a full register of all local businesses.
The official North Carolina Notary Search illustrates a specialized directory with limited scope.
Search by the name on the stamp or certificate and choose Cabarrus or Rowan as the commission county when appropriate. Online history before the early 1990s is unavailable, and a recent commission may not appear until the oath record is uploaded. For physicians, nurses, lawyers, brokers, contractors, cosmetology professionals, engineers, surveyors, and educators, the state professional license directory routes a name to the responsible board. These official tools are best for license number, status, public discipline, or board contact data, depending on the profession.
Two Counties Shape Kannapolis Directories
A Kannapolis mailing line does not prove which government holds a record. Most of the city is in Cabarrus County, while its northern part reaches Rowan County. The city also spans eight ZIP codes, and some addresses use Davidson, Concord, Huntersville, Landis, or China Grove as the preferred postal name. Parcel jurisdiction, school system, city limits, and postal identity are separate facts.
County check: Use the parcel or event location before choosing a county directory. City staff and KCS lists cross local geography differently from deeds, tax rolls, and county filings.
This split matters most when a name is tied to land, an assumed name, or a county filing. Cabarrus offices are in Concord. Rowan offices are in Salisbury. Kannapolis is not the seat of either county. When online results fail, the matching county counter, office computer, phone contact, or written request is the sound fallback. General access and copy procedures belong with the Kannapolis public records system.
Historical Kannapolis Directory Holdings
The Cabarrus County Library catalog preserves several distinct directory trails. The copies are not one continuous run. Searching the catalog under Polk, Kannapolis city directory, Hill-Donnelly, and telephone directory exposes different records. Physical copies and local-history materials are strongest at the Concord branch Lore Room, though the catalog also identifies holdings at other branches.
| Kannapolis city directories | 1940, 1942, 1950, 1951, 1953, 1956, 1957, 1959, 1961-1965, 1967-2000, and 2002-2013 |
|---|---|
| Current Polk copies surfaced | 2015-2026 |
| Kannapolis telephone directories | 1928, 1939, 1946, 1951-1955, 1957, 1959-1999, 2001, 2002, 2004-2007, 2009, 2012, 2013, and 2015-2020 |
| Hill-Donnelly reverse title | Annual publication beginning in 1988; individual library volume years were not exposed in the public display |
A standard city volume starts with a surname and may reveal an address, occupation, spouse, or business. A reverse or criss-cross directory starts with a street address and points to the listed occupant. Hill-Donnelly covers Concord, Kannapolis, Albemarle, China Grove, Landis, and other nearby communities, making it the strongest historic address-to-occupant source. Staff can also consult microfilm, folders, books, deeds, wills, court minutes, tax lists, estate papers, church records, family Bible notes, and cemetery readings in the Lore Room collection.
Kannapolis Yearbook and Newspaper Directories
School annuals and newspapers fill gaps left by household directories. The library catalog dates publication of A.L. Brown High School's Albrokan to 1924, but that date does not mean every year survives. Explicitly labeled copies include 1943, 1953-1956, 1962, 1964, 1967-1970, 1973, 1975, 1977-1981, 1988, 1996-2000, and 2013. The catalog also lists annuals for Kannapolis Middle School and Charles B. Aycock Elementary School.
Yearbooks can place students, teachers, club members, and team participants together at one school and time. Search variant forms of a name, then compare a portrait or activity entry with a city directory address. For later contact details, use the current KCS staff list only when the person has a public school role.
The library's NewspaperArchive access includes the Kannapolis Daily Independent from 1938 through 1994. The library also provides Newspapers.com North Carolina Collection, Chronicling America, HeritageQuest, Ancestry Library Edition, and FamilySearch. News stories, obituaries, school notices, and social columns can distinguish people who share a surname. Concord and Salisbury microfilm runs at the State Archives expand the search beyond Kannapolis titles.
Cannon Mills Community Name Sources
Kannapolis remained an unincorporated mill community until 1984. Older twentieth-century names may therefore sit in county, mill-company, school, church, or newspaper collections rather than modern municipal files. The Cannon Mills Records, 1836-1983 at Duke's Rubenstein Library cover corporate officers, company operations, publications, and community or welfare institutions. They complement, but do not replace, household directories.
The Cabarrus Lore Files preserve church-family material, Bible entries, and cemetery readings. The catalog also contains a Kirkwood Presbyterian Church member directory. The Colored Page records oral narratives and other history from the Black communities of Centerview, Bethel, Texas, and Happy Holler. Those place names can unlock church, cemetery, and newspaper searches for residents who appear weakly in conventional lists.
County formation dates also shape the trail. Rowan was organized in 1753. Cabarrus formed from Mecklenburg in 1792. Land tied to the northern part of modern Kannapolis may lead to Rowan, while older Cabarrus-side land may require Mecklenburg sources before 1792. No official evidence supports claiming a destroyed span of Cabarrus or Rowan directory years.
Kannapolis Cemetery and Memorial Directories
The city is cataloging and mapping Kannapolis Cemetery, but no live public interment search was available during research. Parks and Recreation remains the direct channel at 704-920-4343. The site contains five sections, 554 designated lots, and roughly 3,474 plots. The city estimates about 300 unmarked graves. Information has been recovered for about 125, leaving about 175 still unidentified.
Lore Room cemetery readings and church files are useful checks for names that the city project has not yet resolved. Family Bible notes, an obituary, a telephone listing, and a nearby household in a city volume can help establish whether similarly named people belong to the same family. These are leads to compare, not substitutes for the municipal plot record.
Veterans Park offers another local name index. Its Ring of Honor lists more than 1,700 Cabarrus and Rowan service members who died in service, reaching back to the Revolutionary War. The memorial is a focused directory rather than a broad veteran roster, but it can connect a name to service, county history, and later newspaper or cemetery research.
Offline Paths for Kannapolis Directories
Not every useful Kannapolis people directory is searchable from home. City department main lines, the KCS district office, RCCC departments, the Register of Deeds counters, and county tax offices can route a narrow question when a web form returns nothing. Cabarrus land indexes and images are reported from 1792 to the present, with office computers and time-framed hard-copy indexes available. Rowan publishes historical indexes from 1753-1921 and images from 1753-1875, while access differs for later record series.
- Confirm the name spelling, approximate date, public role, address, school, company, or parcel that defines the search.
- Resolve Cabarrus or Rowan jurisdiction for land and county filings. Do not rely on the postal city alone.
- Search the matching current directory, then save the department, parcel, book and page, campus, or license details that can identify the right person.
- Call or visit the keeper when online coverage is incomplete. Ask the library about physical volumes, microfilm, Lore Room folders, and archive databases.
- Compare at least two sources before treating a same-name match as the same individual.
North Carolina's state employee directory and DPI staff directory provide further statewide routes for public personnel. The State Archives county guides reach older Cabarrus and Rowan records. A precise date, place, and source type gives staff far more to work with than a name alone.
Use directory data lawfully. Public contact, property, and historical details should never be used to stalk, harass, threaten, or harm another person.
